Moai terms of use

Version 1.7, 2026-10-09

Moai is a private app for small groups of people who are close: family, friends. You plan outings and share photos, recipes, groceries and expenses, just between you. These terms say what you can expect from Moai, and what Moai expects from you. The French version is the reference text.

1. Who provides Moai

Moai is published by [à compléter : editeur_nom], [à compléter : editeur_forme_juridique], [à compléter : editeur_adresse] ("the publisher", "we"). Full details are in the legal notice. To write to us: moreaust+moai@gmail.com.

2. Accepting these terms

To use Moai you must accept these terms and have read the privacy policy. The app asks you when you first sign in, and asks again if a significant change is made (section 14). The circle charter is part of these terms.

3. Your account

4. Circles and roles

A circle is a closed group. You can only join by invitation from one of its members. What is posted in a circle is visible to all its members, and to them only.

Neither the owner nor the admins have access to your personal settings or your personal records ("My lodgings", and your recipes as long as they are not linked to any circle).

5. What you post

Your photos, messages, recipes and other content remain yours. A recipe exists as a single copy and only you can edit or delete it: a member who can read it may keep it in their recipes or link it to another of their circles, not copy or change it, and you can remove those links.

For Moai to work, you allow us to host this content, store it, create reduced versions of it (thumbnails) and display it to the members of the circles where you posted it. This permission is free of charge, limited to that single purpose, and ends when you delete the content or your account. We do not use your content for advertising or to train an artificial intelligence model, and we do not pass it on to anyone.

You are responsible for what you post. You only post content you have the right to share: your own, or content for which you have the agreement of the people concerned.

6. What is not allowed

You agree not to use Moai to:

7. Reporting and moderation

Any member can report content or a profile from the app ("Report"). Anyone, even without an account, can report content they believe to be unlawful to moreaust+moai@gmail.com, stating where it is and why it is a problem.

We review each report within 48 working hours. Depending on its seriousness, we may remove the content, warn its author, or suspend or close an account. Content that is manifestly unlawful and serious is removed without delay and reported to the competent authorities.

When we remove content or restrict an account, we inform the person concerned and give the reason. They can contest the decision by writing to moreaust+moai@gmail.com within six months: their request is reviewed by a person, not by an automated system.

We do not monitor circles: no content is read or analysed unless it is reported.

8. A free service

Moai is free and has no advertising. If a paid offer were ever introduced, it would come with separate terms of sale that you would be free to accept or not; what is free today would not become paid without advance notice.

9. Availability

We do our best to keep Moai running at all times, but cannot guarantee it: maintenance, a failure or an incident at a provider may interrupt it. Without a network connection, the app can still be read but not written to.

Moai is not a backup service. Keep a copy of your important photos. You can download all your data at any time from your profile ("Export my data").

10. Your personal data

The privacy policy explains what data Moai processes, why, for how long, and how to exercise your rights.

11. Other publishers' services

Some features call on other services, at your request: adding to your calendar, connecting a shopping list app, importing from a link, maps and address search. Their use is also governed by those services' terms. You can do without each of these features.

12. Artificial intelligence features

On devices that support it, Moai can suggest a draft (a formatted recipe, an event filled in from a message or a web page). These suggestions are produced on your device, without being sent to a remote service, and are never saved until you have reviewed and confirmed them. They may contain errors: check them.

13. Liability

We are responsible for the proper functioning of the service within the limits set by law. We are not responsible for content posted by members, which we host without checking it beforehand, nor for decisions made between members of a circle (shared expenses, organising an outing, car sharing).

The shared expenses calculation is an aid: Moai makes no payments and holds no funds.

Nothing in these terms limits the rights the law gives you as a consumer.

14. Changes to these terms

We may change these terms, for example when a feature is added or when the law changes. Each version has a number and a date. A significant change is submitted to you in the app before it applies; if you refuse it, you can export your data and delete your account. A change of form (a typo, a rewording with no effect) does not ask for your agreement again.

15. Leaving Moai

You can delete your account at any time, from your profile or from the deletion page, even without the app. You then choose between leaving what you shared to your circles, under an anonymous profile, or deleting everything.

We may suspend or close an account that seriously breaches these terms, after informing its holder, except in an emergency. If we were to shut Moai down, you would be told at least three months in advance, giving you time to export your data.

16. Governing law and disputes

These terms are governed by French law. If you live in another European Union country, you keep the protection of the mandatory rules of your country.

In case of disagreement, write to us first at moreaust+moai@gmail.com: we will look for an amicable solution. You can also use a consumer mediator free of charge. Failing agreement, the dispute falls to the courts that have jurisdiction under the law; for a consumer, these include the courts of their place of residence.
